Selena Gomez Has More Ink Than You Realize
It’s been more than five years since Selena Gomez got a tattoo for the first time, but since then, the brunette beauty has collected an impressive amount of tats
Just like every other 20-something who is into tattoos, the singer started out relatively tame, getting a simple music note on her right wrist in February 2012. Since, she has been working her way up to a whooping nine pieces of ink (that we know of). All of the tattoos are reflective of Selena's unique personal style.
1. Music note · February 22, 2012
Selena's very first tattoo was a musical note on her right wrist. Selena got the tattoo at Under The Gun in Hollywood, CA by artist Louie Gomez. The tattoo came shortly after Selena announced that she would be taking a break from music to spend most of 2012 focusing on her acting career. When asked about the meaning by E! Online, she told “I was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez and music obviously is a big influence for me. And there’s music stuff with my mom that means a lot to me, too.” She also says this one is special because she writes music with her right hand.
2. LXXVI · September 30, 2012
Her second tattoo is a Roman numeral on the back of her neck, which translates to the number 76. It is believed to be in honor of her mother, who was born in 1976. She got it done in September 2012.
3. God who strengthens me · October 28, 2013
The brunette beauty is open about how close she is to her faith, and the tattoo on her right hip is just another example. Taken from Philippians 4:13, the ink reads, "God who strengthens me."
4. أحب نفسك أولا ("Love yourself first" in Arabic) · July 16, 2014
Celebrity tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy posted an Instagram photo of Selena showing off a new Arabic tattoo along the right side of her back, curving into her side, that translates to “love yourself first.”
5. G · June 2015
Selena has a tattoo behind her left ear of a lowercase “g” representing her little sister Gracie, who was born on June 12, 2013.
6. Om · September 2015
Selena has the "Om" sign, symbolizing a search for mindfulness, on her left right hip.
7. Sunshine · April 20, 2016
Selena's "Sunshine" tattoo on the top of her right foot honors a tradition she had with her grandmother. When Selena was little, her grandma would tuck her in and sing "You Are My Sunshine."
For Selena, Nana is her sunshine:
8. Semicolon · April 10, 2017
The former Disney Channel star got a semicolon tattoo in honor 13 Reasons Why, a TV project she produced and which deals with teen suicide. Project Semicolon is “a movement dedicated to presenting hope & love to those who struggle with mental illness, suicide, addiction, & self-injury" that went viral in 2013 thanks to Amy Bleuel, who got the punctuation mark inked in honor of her father, whom she lost to suicide. Since then, thousands of people all over the world have gone on to get identical tattoos.
9. Matching '4' · August 18, 2018
Selena and three of her pals made their friendship a little more permanent by getting the number '4' tattoo each: "These women have stayed by my side for 7 years. 4, because you are my 4 for the rest of my life. I love you ladies. You all inspire me to be better, stronger, closer to god and we have lived the most INSANE story together already. Can't wait for 50 more!!" she wrote.
10. Matching '1' · August 18, 2018
Selena and her best friend Courtney also got '1' tattoos together. Selena wrote: "And lastly, my actual #1 Courtney Barry you are an incredible woman. The way you handle life’s most confusing moments is indescribable and graceful."
11. Matching arrow tattoos · November 13, 2019

13. Small date tattoo on the back of Selena's right arm
The tattoo represents the date that she had the kidney transplant surgery in order to treat the lupus that the singer was battling at the time. The first digit appears to be a six, indicating that her surgery happened in June 2017, though she has yet not given fans a close-up look at the design.

Located on the right side of the 27-year-old's neck, it's a tribute to her latest album 'Rare'. The tattoo itself is the word "rare" written in the same lettering as her album's cover art.
